Odesa, Ukraine has sandy beaches, mostly with a gentle entry into the water.
Because of upwelling. When a steady wind blows along the coast or away from it for a day or two, it pushes the warm surface layer out to sea and cold water from below rises to replace it. The water can cool by 5–8°C within a day, even in midsummer, and usually warms up again a few days after the wind changes. The beach conditions panel above shows when upwelling is under way or likely.
Sometimes. The most common is the moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), whose sting is very weak. In late summer the large barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo) can appear; its sting causes mild, short-lived irritation. The transparent comb jellies don't sting at all. Numbers peak in warm water from July to September and vary a lot from year to year.
Practically none. The Black Sea is almost enclosed, so the tidal range is only a few centimetres. Changes in the water level at Odesa, Ukraine come from wind and waves, not tides.
